FOs!!!!

So, I've got tons of FOs. And Monday, the most amazing WIP ever. And I've kept to my word, I haven't started anything new, I've been working on the things that are still on the needles. First up, the baby sweater. It's done, it's perfect, it's beautiful. And it still needs buttons.
Next, three pairs of earrings (up for sale in my WePay)

Finally, the sperm. I have 35 or so of them just sitting in a bag in my closet. The plan was to make 100 of them for Regretsy, but I ran out of time. So now I have nothing to do with them. I gave one to a friend, and made it a little cape, since it was her birthday. She loves it.

I dumped my Etsy shop, and set up a WePay instead. It's cheaper for me, and from what I've been told, much better. Everyone I know that was on Etsy has left and is now on Wepay instead.
School is going well, except for this teachers strike. What's going on is that the teachers voted to strike yesterday. They turn in the paperwork saying that they intend to strike on Tuesday. If their issue isn't resolved by the 23rd, they walk out on the 24th, and I'll be out of school for a while. :( I hope it gets resolved.

Flood

So, as you know, we moved. We only JUST got internet back (because the company likes to fuck people), and I haven't completely finished unpacking. School started January 17th, and goes until May 11th-ish.
Everything has been really busy, so it's a metaphorical flood.
In the meantime, I've got 4 FOs, and 35 more (technically) on top of that. That's a lot, I know. It's going to be amazing, though.
Tonight, I don't have a WIP post because I came home from school and took a nap. Naps are good.
This Saturday (since I totally forgot to last Saturday), I WILL FOR SURE be posting my mass of FOs. I promise.

We've been without internet since the move, because our internet company is a giant bag of dicks. I've gotten so much done, and so much to share. I started school (Philosophy, psychology, and a math class.), I've learned so much in just three short weeks, and I've knitted so much.

I am knitting and knitting and knitting.
I am so busy knitting and doing other things that I haven't taken any pictures. There will be a huge FO post this week, I swear.

I haven't got any FOs yet, but soon. I'm still working away on the baby sweater. I spent most of my weekend watching How I Met Your Mother with Chris, while knitting a hat.

Sorry for the late post, I had some technical difficulties. But it's a new year, it's awesome. It's frigid and fucking miserably cold out, but it's still a new year. It's January 3rd, and there is STILL no snow on the ground. Knock on wood. Anyway, remind me why babies need sweaters? I've got one buttonhole left to do, which is (roughly) twenty more rows, and then a garter stitch edge before I bind off. I think. Damn vague crap pattern. It looks like a sweater now, though, isn't it adorable? Except for the lack of sleeves and all, but still! It's just cute.
I'll attempt to model it on a stuffed animal, or something, if I have one newborn-sized. Roosevelt (the one that sleeps on my bed with me) is a bit too small to model it correctly.
Since I got bored with the sweater, I cast on this (with some modifications) on size 8s, did one repeat, thought it looked like crap, ripped it out, cast on with size 7s, did one repeat, ripped it out again.

The mods I made were ommiting the YO, doing reverse stockinette instead of reverse garter stitch in the "purl 3" panels, and turned the first cable the opposite direction. I was also thinking about making it a full-length scarf, rather than a "scarflet". But, since I ripped it again, it will not be a full-length scarf.
I've been spinning the Wensleydale fiber like crazy, and it seems like it's replenishing what I use after I use it. It's only 3.5 ounces, come on! It's intensely frustrating to spin and spin and spin this stuff, and then realize there's still TONS of fiber left. Ugh. I wanna finish this so I can have my spindle open for the new fiber I've got. Note to self, get more spindles.

Monday WIPs

Before WIPs, I MUST show off the fiber sample box that I bought from this fantastic shop. The woman who runs it was EXTREMELY helpful, and ended up setting up a fantastic custom listing for me. She gave me an incredibly reasonable price, and worked with me on what I wanted out of this fiber. I love the gradient colors, I love the variety of fibers, and I just love the way they all feel.
The llama roving is the softest, most wonderful thing I have ever felt, and I want so, so much more of it.

I can't wait to spin it all up, and then decide what to knit it all into. I'm so excited for what it will eventually become.
I got all of my Christmas gifts knitted on time, just barely. I wove in the ends and wrapped my brother's scarf on our way to his house, and he LOVES it. He went on and on about how talented I am and I am just overjoyed that he expressed that much love for it. The rest of my Christmas day was spent turning the baby sweater from this:

It actually looks like a sweater now! I have to find the exact perfect buttons for it, still, and I'm going to at some point with a gift card from Michael's that I got. Sock yarn and buttons, and maybe some new size 2 (US) DPNs so that I can knit some new socks. But before I start new socks, I'm going to work on my New Year's resolutions:
1. Finish ALL of my WIPs.
2. Healthier eating habits. (I.E. eating more than once a day, eating healthier, so on.)
I think I can do this. I'm getting really excited about the things I knit as I knit them more, because my main problem is "I'm bored with this, let's start something else." I've been so pleased with the sweater as it gets bigger and bigger, and I'm hoping I'll start feeling more like that with the rest of my stuff.
At the very least, I have PLENTY of time to work on my WIPs, as I don't start school again until January 17th.

100th Post!

So many FOs to post! I'll start with Christmas presents. Those are safe since I know that my family doesn't follow my blog. First up, Chris's gloves. I just have to pick up some fabric glue, to glue on the paw pads. It looks better than sewing them.

Next up, one of two things that I finished last week, and didn't post because of the Taco Bell Fiasco. More baby stuff!

This lovely blue set is Caron Simply Soft Paints, in colorway Ocean. It will soon (after Christmas) have a matching sweater, and then the set will be posted in my shop.
Next up, another orange baby set, which is up for sale, and would make a great Christmas present for anyone who is expecting, or just had a baby!

The reason my post is so late, is because I spent ALL DAY Friday, Saturday, and Sunday baking cookies. Literally, all day. I made peanut butter, snickerdoodle, and "dream" cookies. Those are sorta gross. Chocolate cookie with chocolate chips and white chocolate chips. Anyway, I have something like several hundred cookies just sitting in my kitchen now. Probably close to a thousand. And I still have peanut butter cookie dough left. It's in the freezer now, though, so I don't have to worry about it. This picture here is the first (of eight) batches of snickerdoodle cookies.
So! Since I'm not done with Christmas knitting, and I'm not done spinning that highly allergenic champagne yarn, I will not be posting a blog until next Monday (the 26th). It will be a WIP post, as normal, and the following Saturday will be the Christmas FO post. Then things should be back to normal. Happy holidays, everyone!

Free Fiber

So, I won this contest/give away thing on this blog, and got this lovely fiber (from this shop on Etsy) in the mail a few days later:
It isn't the softest fiber I've ever felt, but the color is kind of neat. It's dyed with natural herbs and stuff, and the yarn comes out a bit darker than the fiber.

I'm thinking about doing a blog give-away of my own, with the finished yarn. What do you guys think?

As for Chrismas WIPs, this is what Chris' first glove looked like yesterday.
This is what it looks like now.
I've decided that I'm going to knit the whole glove in white, and then sew on felt paw-pads later. It seemed the easiest option, after I had tried to do intarsia while still increasing for the thumb. That did not work well at all. So, felt. Felt is my friend. Felt makes knitting Chrismas presents way easier, because after the second glove, I have four hats to knit. Sigh.

Totally a good excuse to have not posted an FO post, right? Curse you, Taco Bell!!

I've started plotting Christmas presents, a bit too late. Four hats, a pair of gloves, a dice bag. I think I can do this. The gloves were cast-on yesterday, and I'm about half finished with the first one. But there's this one part that's sort of stumping me, and so it's just been sitting. That, and I spent all of last night puking my brains out. Anyway, stumping. It's a pair of white fingerless gloves with a black paw on the palm, for Chris. Polar bear gloves. The question is, intarsia or duplicate stitch? I can't really decide.

Earlier last week, I won a contest, and got (roughly) 3.5 ounces of some pretty interesting fiber in the mail. I'm not a fan of the color, and I can't spin it for too terribly long, because I'm more allergic to this type of wool than others, apparently. Maybe when it's all yarn, I'll pay it forward, and host my own contest.

I hope I'm feeling less sick tomorrow, because I have a final at 3. Right now, I'm holding down fluids for the first time in 24 hours, and I haven't had any food. So I'm hungry but not. Oh well, more time to knit, I suppose.

Well, that was silly of me.

Yesterday, I finished one of the WIPs I was working on. Not the fish blanket. So I ended up with no WIP to post, since I haven't worked on the fish blanket. But at least I'll have FOs for Saturday, right?
So, tomorrow (Wednesday) I have a test in math, and then Monday is my math final. Yikes. My semester is almost over. So, with the holidays, I'll have much more time to knit. Until January 14th-ish. That's when my second semester starts. Yay for being a college student!

I'm still crocheting. I hate, hate, hate it. I'm good at it, sure, but I'm better at knitting. And I like it more. LOTS more. This is slow, and not always as pretty. But in this case, it really is pretty. Oh my gosh, is it pretty.
I'm in the final stages of the fish blanket. Oh, the fish blanket. The last time you saw the fish blanket, it looked like this.
Now that I've started crocheting the strips together, it looks like this!

I've got three strips (almost), and four more to go. Then an edging. I'm so excited! Then, I think I might actually start working on all the other things in my WIP bag (that hides in my closet, ashamed of itself because I've let it sit for so long.) There are still at least six projects in there. But alas, I've a non-addiction to knitting that damned baby hat and bootie set. It's just so cute, and so quick. And so cute!

As far as school is going, I am really struggling with the math. We've started factoring, and I just can't get it to click. I hate it and it sucks. >:( and I'm super worried because I have finals in like two weeks. Maybe three. Something like that.

As for life, it's dramatic. My mother started a fight with my brother on Thanksgiving, and then checked herself into a psyche ward for a 72 hour hold. She now refuses to talk to anyone else in the family. As of now, I feel like she'll never get better. If this has been happening my entire life, what motive does she have to take care of herself? I just don't have the energy for trying to make her understand anymore. Sigh.

As for things with Chris, they are going pretty well. He still hasn't used the Star Trek cloths, like a butt. But oh well.

As of late Saturday night/early Sunday morning, I had two whole FOs to show off to everyone tonight. For starters, more baby stuff! (Which is totally up for sale in my shop now.)

I swear, I am not addicted to making this baby hat and bootie set, even though it's so damned cute.
I also finally finished re-knitting my sister's beret. I think it's much cuter now. View from the side:

All in all, it's a really productive weekend, even though I spent a lot of time sleeping off the food-coma that I had attained from Thanksgiving dinner with Chris.

WIPs

So, I'm working on the fish blanket again. I've gotten five and a half of the seven strips crocheted into actual strips. Soon, I get to crochet the strips into a blanket! And then it'll be up for sale. I'm so excited! But I don't know how much to sell it for. Any suggestions?

Saturday FOs!!

For starters, my FOs! I finished the panda scarf, finally, and my younger sister is shown here, modeling it for me.

I've also finished that pig, for the pig-commission.

Now, that yarn that I got in the mail. Pretty, right?
Yeah. Also extremely difficult. But the stitch markers are nice.

In other news, I got my tattoo on Wednesday! It's three days old here, and the black-ish smudges on my skin to the right (towards my back) are from the tape that they had used to secure the bandage. For some reason, my camera wants to pick up a brown-ish (in the swirls) that isn't really there. I'll have to try and get a better picture during the day, with natural lighting. Also, for those who've never gotten tattoos, it's the best worst feeling ever.
Kudos to those of you who know what it means.

Lack thereof.

For the record, I am a forgetful human.
Also, I had nothing to show for my work this week. No FOs so no post. :'(
On top of that, there hasn't been enough progress to be worth taking pictures of and then posting. So a lack-of-progress post. It's filled with me talking (boringly) about my life.

In news, we're moving back to the house that my mother currently occupies. She will be moving out this weekend, and we (my dad, my sister, and myself, plus two cats) will be moving back in next weekend. Woo.

School is going well math still sucks, but it's getting better.
My relationship with Chris is also going really well.

I will be getting a tattoo either Wednesday or Thursday evening. I'm excited but not (because it's going to be on my ribs). I will post pictures once it's done.

I paid $18.50 for yarn that took over a week to get here, from only one state away. I found them on Etsy, and ordered the 475 yard skein, so that I could make socks, and when it got here, I spent four hours turning it into a ball, because it was so badly tangled. On top of that, it pills very badly (I've never had YARN pill on me, only sweaters), and so the socks may not be the best. The only good thing is that it came with two stitch markers. But I probably will not be buying from those people again.
I will post pictures of the yarn, and of my tattoo when I get the tattoo. Woo!

Tuesday WIPs

The panda scarf got ripped back to the last row of white, as it just wasn't looking right with the black in the middle. I've decided that it'll just be white with black ends.
This is a pig plushy, with just the body finished. (I got a commission from a person obsessed with pigs). Next up, ears nose and tail. (Pattern)
After today, everything should be back on proper schedule.

Monday FOs

So, FOs! First up, a quizzical looking piggy keychain. (Pattern)

I accidentally sewed the legs on crooked, after embroidering his face, so it sort of looks like he's tilting his head. I ended up sewing the ears on crooked as well, so as to match his face.

Next up, I took this pattern, and added a few details, and crocheted a chain to put a keyring on. (For the record, I absolutely adore Anna Hrachovec.)
So, Chris has been telling me for quite a while that he thinks I have a yarn problem. He keeps tossing out words like "excessive" and "hoarding". I kept telling him that it isn't a problem, it will all get used, don't worry, until last Wednesday when he was over, and I tripped over it. Then I actually looked at how much yarn I really have. And I looked at how much of it was just little left-over balls from bigger projects. Mostly 30 yards or so.
At the foot of my bed, I have this:

And this really, truly is a LOT of yarn. Somewhere in that mess (most likely at the very bottom) is 14 skeins of black yarn that I plan on making a new hoodie out of. That hamper to the left of all of my yarn is also full of yarn.
So, in an effort to slightly remedy this issue, I am no longer allowed to buy yarn, until I have made a large dent in what I've got. Just wondering, though. What do I do with 30 yards or less of yarn?

In other news, Chris and I had a very wonderful anniversary. He made dinner for me. It started with jalapeno poppers and spinach arancini (it's a sort of diced au graten potato that is rolled around some cheesy spinach stuff, and then breaded lightly and baked or fried or something), and it was a very filling appetizer choice. For the main course, he made chicken cordon bleu, which was really awesome, but it was HUGE! I couldn't even finish half of mine, and he got just barely over half of his eaten. I swear, these chicken breasts were from mutant giant chickens. Anyway, for desert, he got me some espresso gelato (which is fucking fantastic, by the way) and got some pistachio gelato for himself.
All in all, it was a very happy two-year anniversary, and I loved every second of it. He's an incredible person, and I love him very dearly, and I'm ridiculously thankful to have him. :)

Tomorrow night (October 29th) is my two-year anniversary (Holy crap!) with my wonderful, amazing boyfriend, Chris. He refuses to tell me what we are doing to celebrate, but insists that it will be awesome. I have FOs to show, but the post will be late. Have a wonderful weekend, everyone.

Monday WIPs

First, part of a commission that had a rush put on it, so it and it's companions have to be done by Friday. Who wants to guess what it is?
And the panda scarf, the last of that really big commission that I've been working on for way too long. It's about 1/3 done, here.
As for math class, I spoke too soon, and I'm starting to struggle with it. :(

Saturday FOs Aplenty.

There are a lot of recent FOs here. Lots. I've been busy :) First up, this ridiculously adorable baby hat and bootie set that totally looks like ice cream, and is up in my Etsy shop.

Second, I've finally finished Chris' housewarming present, and gotten it to him. He, of course, loves it. (By the way, this totally counts as 6 FOs, not one.)

Next, I've finished the bias scarf, and I love it. I can't wait to make my own. It's enjoyable to knit, and it looks nice on both sides. No weird striping or anything.

As well as knitted FOs, I've got a spun FO. I used up all of the milk fiber, and I am currently waiting to buy some more, because I loved it so much, and I want more milk-yarn than I have. I have no clue what I'll do with it, but I'll make into something to wear next to my skin.

In other news, I passed my first math class this semester with a B!! My second math class is now doing graphing and it's boring. :(

Monday WIPs, and technical difficulties.

I would have posted Saturday, but there were technical difficulties on Saturday morning, and by the time it was night, I had completely forgotten that I was supposed to post a blog. Oops!
Today, I have WIPs.
The pink bias scarf, looking much longer than it was.
And my sisters hat, not having changed a whole lot. It's gained maybe an inch or two.
Only because I've been spending a LOT of time spinning instead of knitting. I love-nay, adore this milk fiber. I can't wait to get more.
In Etsy-related news, I still haven't had a sale yet. Soon, though, hopefully.

New toys

Tonight is a "New toys" post, as well as news post. Tomorrow will be the FOs of the week (or so), and Monday will be back to the normal WIP post.

For starters, oh the new toys!!! I got myself an interchangeable knitting needle set, as a present to myself. It's a Boye Needle Master kit, it comes with every size from US 2 to US 15, and I LOVE it. The cables are a hair inflexible, but I'm sure that'll change with use. As of right now, I still need to get the three hat-sized cables (12 inch, 14 inch, and 16 inch), as it didn't come with any of those.
Second, I got a sample of some very interesting fiber from Kate on Etsy, and I'm going to have to buy so much more of it because I'm in love with it. It is so outrageously soft, that I would lie naked in a vat of it and just roll around for hours. It's softer than the softest cashmere. It's also shiny and drapes very nicely, and spins up like a dream.
And the best part? It's made of MILK!!! How freaking cool is that?
I haven't been getting as much knitting done as I would like to be, because I've been tp busy spinning up the milk fiber. The singles, thus far, are just as soft as the fiber is, and are also very thick-feeling, even though I spun it a little thin. I want enough to knit into a sweater, and it would be my favorite sweater ever.
As for my news, my Etsy shop is officially open! I don't have tons in there now, but I will be adding to it as I go. :)

Conflicting Schedules.

I got almost no knitting done, and what I did get done isn't enough to make a noticeable difference from the pictures I posted last Monday. So no picture today. Saturday, though, I'll have a few FOs and new toys :D I just have to recoup from my weekend.
Friday night, I stayed at Chris' house. On Saturday morning, we woke up at 8, got dressed and ate breakfast, and left for the train station. We took the 10:35 train out of Harvard into Chicago. We got to Chicago around 12:30, took a cab to the hotel, and had to change into our dressy clothes for the wedding, and leave for the wedding almost immediately. (The wedding started at 2). We then had the reception from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. and got up at 8 a.m. Sunday, for the family brunch thing. We then spent the whole day (except for dinner) on our feet, just wandering about Chicago doing stuff. We even walked through lunch.
So I was super sleepy.
We got on the 8:30 p.m. train back to Harvard, and then drove home. All in all, it was a great weekend. Just tiring.

Vacation.

Gloom and Doom!

The weather here SUCKS!!!!! I had to walk around campus today, mostly soggy, as it has been raining steadily since last night.
Luckily, not much in my bag actually got very wet.
My WIPs this week are a bias scarf, to go with this hat.
I've also got my sister's revamped hat. So far, it's just the brim (that I didn't have to redo) with new yarn attached, and I've only got the increases done so far. I've been working on that bias scarf. It's fun.
For now, I'll sit in my room with my homework, my grilled cheese and tomato soup, my kitty, and my knitting. Hopefully I'll be more cozy now.

Saturday FOs!!

Well, I said I had two. I almost have five. You'll just have to wait for the rest. The scarf is finished, at just over five feet long (which, like I said, is short for me, but it's for a 10 year old, so I have to keep it normal-ish length, right?).

And while I am a Bears fan, and very much not a Packers fan, a friend of mine is, and he asked that I knit this for him, so I did. That jerk.
I have lots in progress right now. Anyone remember that slouchy hat I knitted for my little sister? She never wears it, so I asked her why, and she had decided that the "very small slouch" she wanted wasn't slouchy enough. So I had to completely change the yarn I was using, because I don't have anymore of that blue and brown. Which meant ripping out all but the brim of the hat, and starting over. Grrr. Ungrateful brat.

Big plans?

No, not really big plans. Just lots of sad. So, who remembers this post where my sock needles broke/bent? Well, I decided to frog the whole sock, and start over on US size 2s. The yarn that had been knitted was wrapped, soaked, and hung.

In the meantime, I will start the second-first sock from the second skein of sock yarn. According to my math (which has been double checked by Chris AND my Dad) the sock on 2s is going to be around 14 less stitches. So it'll possibly take less time.
I'm much more excited to get a fresh start.

WIPs today are just this hat, which will be with Saturdays (very late) FOs.
I finished the blue scarf Saturday, with almost a full skein of yarn left, and it's still a more-than-five-foot scarf. I have a tendency to over-do my scarves (if anyone remembers the almost 9 foot rainbow scarf).
So I'll have pics of FOs soon, I swear. Wish me luck on my quiz tomorrow!

I totally have two FOs!! But I haven't taken pictures yet, because I haven't been home much this weekend, because I was out with Chris most of the weekend. But there are two FOs that I'll take pictures of soon.

If I were to recommend a TV show, it would be one I really, really like (I don't often recommend things, because most people don't like the things I do.). So on that note, everyone should check out Being Human. The BBC version, not the American version. It's really great. Chris and I watched the first season, and half of the second earlier tonight.

Now to ungracefully segue into my classes. I have two this semester: Math 91 and Human Sexuality. Human sexuality is like a sex ed. class, but on a college level. Not only is it "This is how everything works and what it looks like" but there is also a lot on the history, different cultural aspects, and a lot more of the scientific stuff on it. It is quite possibly the most interesting class I have ever taken, ever. I learned, on the first day, that the first gay rights and women's rights movements were in 1839. I also learned that fetuses start asexual, rather than "all babies start female" as everyone keeps trying to tell me. And I actually took FOUR pages of notes on testicles last week. I had no idea how complicated that all was.
Oh, and I'm learning math too.
But I like my human sexuality class better.

On a side note, I would totally let me do surgery on me. Look how happy I am! And I totally finished it in like two hours, and went to bed all excited to go to school the next day, without infecting other people, but once I woke up, I was fairly certain I was dying. So I didn't make it to school. :(

Labor Day WIPs

First up, hat three of three, (the panda hat) of the "big commission". Once I finish the crown, I'm going back and adding some length to the i-cord before adding pom poms.
Secondly, I have a cold, and it hurts my sinuses to breathe cold air right now. And yeah, it's suddenly fucking cold here, even though it was 90 yesterday. It barely broke 65 today, even though it was super sunny. I hated it.
So, my solution to "I have a cold and air hurts" is "knit a surgical mask". So far, only one row. But it'll get there. Right now, it's one row, because it's 5:30 Tuesday morning. And I'm tired.
This, as odd as it looks right now, is the makings of something epic.
At least, epic to me and most other nerds.

Saturday FOs!!

First off, sad news. Size one knitting needles? Yeah, fucking flimsy. Sitting in my knitting bag at school one of them has bent. I now only have just enough to knit my sock. I'm thinking about undoing the whole sock, and using my brand new size two knitting needles instead. The damage to my poor knitting needle was irreparable. The top one in the picture is how they normally look, for reference.
Now, in good news (since there HAS to be some, to move away from the awful broken needle.), the suspense is finally over!

Pushing Back

School and Knitting Update.

Well, the first week of school was much more exhausting than I thought it would be. So the WIPs that I had planned to be FOs for Friday ended up untouched because I didn't have the energy after doing homework. All it was, really, was seaming and like 10 more rounds of a baby hat. But it did get done. Just not when I wanted it to. I do have 40 minutes between classes on Tuesday and Thursday, and only one class at all on Monday and Wednesday. So I've got plenty of time, now that I've worked out my time management and such. I'm enjoying college so far, it's such a blast.

Anyway, for WIPs today, we have a Hippo Hat for a 5 year old (part of a commission), and that's it for actually on the needles.
The blue scarf is just sitting on a stitch holder, because it was using my size 6s and I needed them for the hat. I'm not going to knit a 3 inch wide scarf on a fair of 10 inch needles. That's just awkward and silly. No, I'm going to use a pair of 7 inch dpns with point protectors on the ends. It just makes more sense.
My sock (the bastard) is also on hiatus until I feel less like shit about it.
The black and rainbow slouch hat is also on hiatus until I'm done with a few commissions, as I don't want to get my priorities skewed.

Anyway, WIPs. Hippo hat is the only picture today.
But as an added bonus (and to distract you from the suspense of my FOs and soon-to-be FOs), a pretty picture I took of Pooka.

Today was my second day of school. It was exhausting. I waited for an hour to get my books (because the person helping me took my name and then went on lunch without telling ANYONE so that someone else could help me.) and then I went to class. It was not a good day.
Between classes and being so exhausted from carrying my books, I haven't gotten any knitting done. There will be at least three FOs on Friday, though, I promise.

See that fucking hole? I was very, very upset. I tried, very very hard to fix it in any way I knew how, and couldn't. I ended up ripping out the entire heel, because I had realized my mistake. I had forgotten to slip certain stitches in the short-row heel. So, I ripped back, as the "post-disaster" picture shows.
I think my slump may have gotten worse.

There are no FOs today, because I fail.
Not only have I failed to knit much this week, I have failed to sleep much, or do much of anything really.
So, the results are that I'm mildly dehydrated and thus, not feeling too well, coupled with being disappointed that I haven't been knitting, and tired because I haven't been sleeping.
Damn this slump of mine.
So in an effort to solve said slump, tonight at game, I will be casting on another baby set.
Baby stuff is the best knitting ever, it takes very little time, and very little yarn.

I'm never late on Mondays. But today, I am. See, I've only been getting like an hour of sleep a night. I just keep having these awful, awful nightmares. It sucks, and I'm so exhausted. But that hasn't stopped me from knitting. Up first is the blue scarf, to go with the blue hat I finished last week. And then, of course, my ever-growing sock.

I suck at updating on Fridays. >.< But I finished stuff. Baby stuff, and the blue hat for the commission! The blue carf is on it's way now.
Specs: Baby hat and booties are Lily Sugar & Cream (I can't find the colorway on their website, the butts.) , the hat is just a basic off-the-top-of-my-head thing, and the booties are this pattern. With the booties, I modded the pattern just a pinch, by not working the eyelets (and just doing plain stockinette for those rows) and not doing shoelaces.
The blue hat is this, minus the cat ears.

For today's FOs, I have the gloves, to go with the kitty hat, for that commission. They were finished weeks ago but I kept forgetting to post them.

I finished a hat and bootie set this week. It matches the blue set (ears and all.)
The three sets are going to my friend Amy, as she commissioned (except that the third set is a surprise because that was for her baby shower that she didn't have.)
I also finished the slouchy hat for the third time, and now it slouches properly.
Next on the agenda is another commission, (as well as my sock and other small side projects) which is a panda bear hat/scarf set, a blue hat/scarf set, and a pink hat/scarf set. The woman who commissioned these sets is getting them for her three daughters (12, 9, and 5), and said that one likes pandas, one likes blue, and one likes pink, and to just wing it from there. So this will be a fun one, no specifics and no frogging back and re-knitting. Woo!

Since I have to get a decent stock up to take into Local Store, that is what I'm working on. A black and rainbow slouch hat, and a sakura scarf (one of many.) Those are my travel projects right now.

Three fish strips done, four to go. Doesn't take long, it's just tedious.
My mother-in-law, RaeAnn started crocheting a blankie, but then she broke her wrist, so it is up to me to finish it.
Cope hasn't been worked on much, but it's getting bigger.
The vanilla shawl hasn't been touched since I started it. I did the first chart repeat and that's it. Oops.
I am literally on the verge of starting the heel turn on my sock. First time ever, eek!
Besides my sock, all I have left to do are big projects. two blankies to finish, two shawls. The skirt got frogged. So do I start more small stuff, or actually finish the big stuff?

I've got the booties done and still needing to be sewn together. I've got both hats almost done, just started decreasing on both the slouch hat (again) and the baby hat.

I'm cutting out the Wednesday blog, as I don't spin enough for there to be any content on Wednesdays. Plus I keep forgetting. I have horrible short term memory. >.<

In my bag, right now, is my sock, and both hats. I'm about an inch away from turning the heel on the sock.

Stephanie's surgery went well. I'm in debt because of school and financial aide being dumb fucks. Lots of bad things with me and my friends lately, it seems. :(

Monday Comes with WIPs, and News.

WIPs today are the fish blanket (finally getting sewn together!), my sock (barely worked on), and the baby stuffs. Currently, the baby hat and booties are in my bag, so they're my "to-go" projects, whereas the fish blanket is my computer desk project, which means it sits next to me while I fuck around on Facebook. My sock is my bedtime project, so I'll knit a few rows here and there when I'm tired, because it helps me sleep. It sits on my bed-shelf thingy. (I don't have a bedside table, nor do I have room for one, so I use my windowsill above my bed as a shelf.)

Tonight, the fish blanket demanded my attention, so I spent two hours pinning out and blocking each individual fish (49 of them.), and then I started crocheting them together. Using the ends from the cast on/bind off didn't work because I couldn't see fish, just hour-glasses. No fun. So I pulled that out, and did it all in the contrast (which is more of a compliment than a contrast, but whatever, I'm not nit-picking.) Anyway, it's looking really nice. I'm using single crochet to stitch the fish into strips, and then using the same to crochet the strips into a blanket. After that, I'm doing a few rows of double crochet around the edges to make it all pretty. As it is, it's still cool looking.

The baby hat is about half-way (ish) done, I think it needs just a bit more length so that the brim can be rolled up without the hat being too small. I could be wrong, though, as I don't really know how to estimate a 3-ish month old baby's head without seeing it.
The second bootie just needs seaming, and will most likely be shown off on Friday.
My poor sock has barely been worked on, as I've been trying to focus on one project at a time. I'm a terrible, neglectful knitter. :( Poor, poor sock.
The hat has gotten a few inches added, but I still don't really like it. Maybe a few more, soon. And then maybe I'll iron it to death, and it'll slouch.
To the news!
So! I went down to a local store in my town, they sell all kinds of punky/gothy/hippy stuff. And they buy sculptures/handmade clothing (aka knitting!) from local people!! So, I went and talked to them, and they will sell my stuff!! I just have to work on some stock, after I finish my commissions, and then get some tags and business cards! Eeeekkk!!! I'm so excited!!
But, to put a damper on that awesome-tastic news, I am currently freaking the fuck out, because Stephanie's surgery is scheduled to start at 6 A.M. tomorrow morning, and I'm not there, and I should be, and I'm scared and worried, and I probably won't hear about how it went until Wednesday-ish. Eeek.

Sorry for the lull, I was taking a week long vacation away from everything. And by that, I mean I stayed at a friend's house for a whole week and did nothing but knit, watch anime on Netflix, and play Portal 2. I also had no cell phone service or internet access the whole time, so it was wonderful to be so disconnected from everything that was stressing me out. I feel tons better about life now.

So, out of all my current WIPs, I've been working on two very specifically. I've also got a few FOs, but you can't see those until Thursday, or I won't have anything to post about.

I've got one baby bootie, one more and a matching hat to do. Plus I should probably seam the booties.
Also, I've been working on this hat again. It's supposed to be slouchy, and I didn't like the amount of slouch, it needed more. So I'm making it longer.
My sock is about an inch away from turning the heel. I admit, I've been neglecting it quite a bit. But it's almost there. Almost.
As for spinning, I've spun maybe a half ounce of the 9.2 ounces of goat angora. I love it. It's stupid soft, and easy to spin. Probably a medium staple, not too short or too long. Etc. I don't know a ton about spinning so I don't really know how to give details about it.
As for blogging, I think I'm going to adjust my schedule a bit. Lets say Mondays for WIPs, Wednesdays for spinning and life updates (because I spin less than I knit), and Fridays for any and all FOs. I think that'll work a bit better, especially once I start school in the fall.

So, today, life update. Things are going well. Working on trying to find a job, so that I can move out, but I think I may not find one quite yet, since I have class every week day this fall, and don't want to fall behind on my homework. Things will get figured out, though. I hope everyone is doing well :)

The picture does it no justice at all, the color is not that blue. It's a storm-cloud gray, and my camera is picking up weird colors in it that I can't see.
Now, FOs! Four of them! An orange and cream baby hat, to match the booties.

I signed up for a swap on Ravelry not too long ago, and got my partner and all that comes with a swap. I've been working on the things for the swap, and the baby hat, and all that stuff.

Sorry about the lack of updating, there's been a lot going on. I really have been knitting, a lot actually. Today, WIPs a day early, and then Thursday, FOs.

This is the shawl that I'm knitting for my best friend. (We've known each other since I was 6, she was 5.) She has a tennis-ball sized tumor growing off of one of her ribs, and when they remove it, she will be losing that rib as well. I found this pattern, and grabbed her favorite color (an olive-ish green) and got to work. In the process, I decided that the shawl will be called Cope.

Also in progress, a simple baby hat to match with the booties, for a friend's baby-shower. She only has four weeks left, so she should be having a shower any day now. If there's no shower, it'll just be a present.
My most-worked on item right now is the Toothpaste scarf, as it's a simple enough pattern to work while playing D&D. So it's grown from around a foot to around 4 and a half feet. As I'm still not out of yarn, I'm going to keep going until I am out of this yarn because I hate it and it's evil and I hate it and will never knit anything else with it. It tangles super easy, so if I have to rip back a row or two, I may as well just tink back instead.
Anyway, at the moment, my keyboard is a mess. My standard scissors are still sitting up here, but they have been joined by 8 legs and two tails. There are two bodies sitting on my floor, all awaiting assembly.
Soon, I'll be not lazy, and sew them all together. I also have to sew all the fish together. I have 49, which makes 7 rows of 7, and a bigger-than-baby-sized blanket. I just have to block each fish (individually) and then sew it all together. Woo!

Apparently, what I tried to post on Thursday got eaten by Blogger, and then it wouldn't even let me on for a few days. Weird.
Anyway, FOs. Baby booties as part of a commission. A matching bunny hat is soon to follow.
I also made this pattern, with crochet thread instead of a $10 or $22 cone of yarn that I can't afford. I think it turned out just fine.
On Friday, me and Chris had a date. He took me to dinner at a Thai restaurant, which was awesome. And then he bought me some really nice lavender tea, and then comics and a Green Lantern pin! He spoils me rotten.
The other day, btw, it was so hot that my poor cat wouldn't even sit in the open windows.

Heatwave.

Bloody hell, it is fucking hot.
Today, it was a high of 96 degrees. Ninety-six! Not to mention, it was more humid than Satan's ass-crack. My poor cats were just laying on the floor all day. Pooka had crawled into the sink to sleep at one point, the poor old thing.

WIPs today are the white angora. Did I mention that it drafts Super easily? Because it does. And it's soft. And I love it.
An almost-done pair of baby booties. The first bootie (pictured below) is now finished. The second is about two rows in.
Thirty-nine fish for the blanket. That gives me six rows of six, with three left-over. Ten more fish will give me fourty-nine, and seven rows of seven. But I'm out of yarn, so Chris is going to buy me more on Friday. With what's left after that, I think I'll make booties and a hat. Maybe. I haven't decided yet.

I like this green. A lot. It's very pretty, it's soft, and I like it. I was given 4 skeins of it, and haven't used more than 10ish yards. (I used it on the edging for my hat.) It compliments the fish, really well, and so I decided that this was it. I love when my yarn speaks to me.

Even though I have time and I have projects to be working on, it's so fucking hot that I just don't want to knit, or do much of anything. Hopefully it cools down soon.

Losing Track

I hadn't been sleeping much, so I've slowly been losing track of the days. Thursday slipped right by me, once again. I do have FOs, but first, a story.
Chris, my darling man, was watching me knit one day. I was knitting one of the fish for the blanket, to be specific. When I was purling, he said "Why are you doing it backwards?", so I explained it to him. Not too long after that, I was spinning the red wool roving and he asked how I made it stay spun. So I explained that as well. Thursday night, he learned to knit. He learned to cast on, knit, and bind off. He used size 9 needles and Red Heart yarn. He decided that he's going to make a cube with the 6 different squares he's going to knit. (And by that, he means he's going to knit 6 squares and make me sew them together.)
For FOs, I finally blocked my Slytherin scarf. After fighting with the steam function and then playing around with the iron for an hour or so, I had a wicked burn and a flat scarf.

All in all, I'm quite pleased. A few stitches needed face-lifts, but that's perfectly fine. My first intarsia project is finally finished. And I'm happy with it.

Next up on the FOs list, is one glove (minus a thumb) for a friend. The other should be coming shortly.
I measured the red yarn, it's a total of 42 yards (approximately) and I still don't want to knit with it. I tried, I really did. It's too abrasive. But it was good practice. I've started spinning the white angora and I love it so much more. It drafts so smoothly, and softly, and it's a little shiny and has a halo sort of and it's so so so soft. I grabbed a six-inch long, 2 inch wide chunk of roving to start spinning with and I've got a good 15-20 yards from it so far, and I haven't even used that whole chunk. And the color! Oh, it's not white, it looks white, but then you get close and it's more of a vanilla color. It's so pretty. I'm so happy with it.9 ounces of roving is going to get me so much yarn.

WIPs and Chains.

(Yes, I know the title of this post is a bad joke.)
I think I've decided that from now on, Tuesdays will be about WIPs, because I know there are plenty of those, and Thursdays will be FOs, especially because I have knitting group Thursday, so I usually finish something on Thursdays.

Since I couldn't wait until Thursday for this, though, I have my own hand-spun yarn! With all of the Satan roving gone, there was just unplied yarn. It sat on my spindle for a day or two, while I decided what to do with it. When I saw how much there was, I decided against plying it. People do that, right? Anyway, so I gave it a bath, let it soak (holy stench, Batman, wet wool smells awful), and then hung it to dry on my doorknob. I used coat hangers to put weight on the bottom, but now I'm thinking they weren't heavy enough.
Once it was dry, I turned it into a cake. I'm not happy with the yarn, it's still a little kinky, and it is not soft at all. There's such a small amount (maybe 20 yards at the very most), I don't even know what I'd knit with it. It's certainly not something I'd want to wear, especially near my face. It was fun to spin it up, even with the problems I had drafting it. Part of me just wants to keep it as an example of my first hand-spun yarn. As bad as parts of it look (varying thicknesses), I am immensely proud of it, because it's mine. I made it. Now on to the 9 ounces of Angora Goat roving, before I try to spin the Blue Leicester. I want to be really good at this before I even touch the purple roving, I want it to be beautiful.
I had to start my socks over. The first one (which was going really slowly at first anyway) had a hole in the toe where I had dropped a stitch, and I had no way to pick it up because it was in the short-row area. I also had to redo the math, because my measurements were off. So I started over. After starting over, the toe fit better, and all that. So I'm enjoying it, especially now that I'm used to how small the size 1s are, as well as the yarn being thinner than what I normally work with.
I am really, really loving the self-striping, too. The colors really work together, and these will be my favorite socks ever. I can't wait to get my hands on more sock yarn. As much as I hate feet, socks are my favorite article of clothing. There are so many cool things you can do with socks. My next pair of socks are going to be rainbow knee-highs. I saw a pair at the mall for like $10, and decided that I could make my own for cheaper. So they're on the list.
Only 3 and a half more inches before I can start the heel!
I'm up to 26 fish now, and should have around 5 to 10 more with what's left of the rainbow-ish yarn. I'm excited, it's gonna be great.

Knitterly things!
I now have 24 fish, and almost enough for my baby blanket. (Only 21 pictured)

My improved House-scarf is now finished, it just needs blocking. Gotta get an iron to do so.
Seven stripes, instead of just the three I had before.
Last week, I had become obsessed with these bunnies, and had decided to knit one for each of Chris' immediate family: Both of his parents, his two sisters, his oldest sister's husband and son, his brother, his brother's wife, and then one for Chris and one for me. Ten total. (not all of them got photographed, sadly.)

Non-knitterly happenings have been kinda not fun. I've been kinda lonely through it all so far, and it's going to last another two and a half months. I really don't like to whine or bitch or anything, I just know that it's going to be hard to deal with for now.
I still need to ply the red wool yarn. I have no idea how to do that, though. I only have a drop spindle. Any advice anyone?

For starters, I changed the picture at the top and bottom of my blog. Woo!
I still have no FOs, besides this adorable Tiny Bunny that took me all of 20 minutes. I'm making a whole family of them for Easter.
This odd-looking turquoise blob is supposed to be this adorable octopus. I frogged it's body, because I didn't like it. Trying again once I get some safety eyes, because embroidered eyes just aren't as cute as the big plastic black eyes.

I will be continuing with the legs, and then restarting the body possibly tomorrow.
There will be pictures of my newly finished house-scarf on Thursday this week, and maybe a few more things if I'm lucky.

Frustrations Abound

I haven't gotten to take any pictures of any more FOs because I haven't had anymore FOs. Sad :( I still can't figure out how to do "slipped-stich rounds" for that damned Pokeball. I just don't get it.

I undid the bind-off edge of my House Scarf so that I could add more stripes. It now has 7 silver stripes instead of 3, and will be re-bound-off probably tomorrow, and then I can block it and post pictures.

I have 18 or 19 fish now, I think. I may have finally chosen a "contrast" color except that it compliments more than contrasts.
I'm done spinning the red roving, there's none of it left. I just have to ply the red yarn now. I think I haven't really got an idea how to do that, but I do know how to keep a mostly even yarn now. Yay practice!

Last week, we had a "storm". And by storm, I mean piddly little bitch excuse for a storm. It looked nice and ominous, and really, it barely even drizzled.
My "whazoo" of FOs is actually more like two.

(Note: This coffee wasn't actually that good.)
With crocheting a Poke'ball, I realized that the black stripe is uneven. I can not figure out how to make it even for the life of me. (The button is hiding how crappy it looks.)

In non-yarnyness, I have had the worst migraine for the past two days. It won't go away. :(

I forgot to update on Tuesday.
Stephanie was with me again. (Damn her being distracting and throwing off my blogging!)

First, I did actually get some (sort of) knitting done! I am out of my funk (probably because of that purple roving that I got on Tuesday), and I made and attached the pom poms to this hat:
Look at how fucking adorable those are. Yeah, I'm totally full of ego, because they turned out so perfect. They didn't even need a hair-cut. Of course, that will never happen again.
While I was on a roll, I finished Chris's hat, and totally winged it on the ears.
I'm still not 100% happy with them, but it could look worse, and I know Chris will love it.
Since I didn't want to knit anymore, I started spinning some more. I've used a little over 1/3 of the red roving that I had. It's still a horrible pain in the ass to draft, so I've been combing it in pieces before trying to spin it. I did, however, pull out one piece, and the staple in this chunk is a freaking foot long. A foot!! No wonder I can't draft it. >:(
A friend of mine very kindly made me a new (much more durable than knitted) choker today. It's very light-weight, even though it looks quite heavy, it doesn't pinch, and fits perfectly.
I love it. It was Chris's idea for me to ask my friend to make it, also, so I don't have to worry about offending him by not using the chain he got me.
For an added bonus of cute, my cat is being a diva lately. Probably because I've been playing paparazzi with her.
Oh, and everyone showed up for knitting group tonight!! It finally seems that it might be working out! :D

You Spin Me Right Round, Baby, Right Round...

I've been having trouble concentrating on knitting.
I've been sitting on 15 knitted fish for a few days.
Chris's polar bear hat needs the rest of the second I-cord, pom-poms and ears, and it's been sitting like this for a few more days.
I started knitting a tie last night, out of boredom, but didn't get far on that before I got bored.
So I started spinning. I picked up the red roving and my newer spindle, and just set to work. I figure I should practice so that I can make a nice looking yarn. It's getting so much more regular than before now.
The reason I've been spinning so much, is because I bought an 8 ounce braid of (this is what it says on the label) "Hand dyed blue faced leicester top" by Frabjous Fibers, in colorway "Purple people eater." I am in love with it. I haven't done anything besides touch and hug it yet, and when I went online to find this "Frabjous Fibers", their website was down, so I know nothing about this. My (only) LYS is closing for good, this Thursday is their last day, so I needed to get something. I just wasn't willing to spend $15 on a teeny skein of yarn, when that particular skein was the last one. So I got this.
It's sooooooo soft. I would lie naked in a vat of it, it's that soft.
I think, once it's yarn, it might become this. I have been in love with that pattern for quite some time. I'll figure out what this roving will be destined to become once it's knittable yarn. (Yes, knittable is a word now.)

Besides knitting, things have been better. I'm not depressed anymore. I've gotten all my paper-work filled out to get financial aid for college, and I will be starting in the fall, after I figure out what classes I'm going to take. Everyone says "Get the gen-ed classes out of the way, choose your Major later!" but I want to choose now. I'll feel more accomplished that way.

No one came for knitting group today, again, which I suppose is fine, because I've been fighting with a bought of depression all week.
I haven't really done much knitting, because I keep fucking it up, and having to rip back, which is just frustrating me, probably because I'm already unhappy.
I'm almost done with Chris's polar bear hat, and I'm up to 12 and one-third fish for the blanket. I have yet to come up with a color that contrasts neon rainbow besides black.

Sock One

I started my first sock, with the sock yarn I got last week. Crochet cast-on, and this pattern. For my first pair of socks ever, I think that it was a good choice.
The short-row toe took forever though.

Yes, I know my needles don't match. They were my Gramma's. But the white needles are entirely too flexible, and so I bought new needles yesterday. I now have 7 size 1 dpns.
My birthday present from Chris finally came in the mail, and I love it.
I strongly recommend (if you're into steam-punk at all) that you go to Catherinette Rings on Etsy. They're amazing, I love steam-punk stuff so much, and theirs is all pretty amazing.

Even though it's not Tuesday anymore, this is the Tuesday post.
I was really busy yesterday, hanging out with an old friend.

First things first, I found out that the red roving from last week is, in fact, wool. I did the burn test with a lighter.

In staying at my sister-in-law's house while her husband was out of town, I knitted 10 fish for the fish blanket (only 8 pictured), an entire hat, and most of another hat. The finished hat still needs pom-poms, and the unfinished at will have pictures on Thursday.

I also got some birthday money from my grandfather, and I got some sock yarn, because I'm in love with the colorway (Mulberry stripes). As you can see, I have turned it into cakes and now I'm looking for a basic toe-up sock pattern.
I am really excited about these soon-to-be-socks.

With this Thursday, came my normal Thursday knitting group. We also had a small party (dinner and deserts) since my birthday is next week, and I will not be having knitting group next week. My friend got me a very pretty drop spindle, and some red roving.
Everyone swears it's most likely acrylic (since the package didn't say) but I swear it was made from the Devil's back hair. It is awful to draft.
This is my first plied piece of the goat angora, and I think it looks wonderful. On top of that, it's dreadfully soft.
This sample piece of the devil-roving (spun and plied) turned out quite soft as well, even though the roving itself is rough and not soft at all.
Over the past week, my crocheted scarf decided to become coasters, because no one told me how stiff crochet is. I have four of six done, and ready to be blocked.
I also have a slouchy hat that I knitted, that needs to be blocked as well. Acrylic can be blocked, contrary to popular belief, I've done it. You have to steam block it, people. I'm just not sure how to apply the steam-blocking method to a hat. Any advice would be appreciated.
I have yet to get a hold of an iron with a steam function, as you can see by my un-blocked scarf. Poor thing.
Next Tuesday and Thursday may or may not have posts, I'm not quite sure yet.

Turns out that I suddenly knew how to crochet. I've tried once before, and didn't like it, but I also wasn't very good at it. The other night, I was working on the Queen of Hearts Bikini from the Stitch 'n Bitch book, and suddenly realized that I could crochet as well.

After I realized that I could crochet, I decided to start actually crocheting a scarf.

So far, it's not very long, but it will be.

I went to my LYS the other day, and picked up a few things. These few things are why I've had so few FOs.
Here's one of the two promised pairs of baby mitts, though!
The reason I've been knitting less, is because I've decided to try my hand at spinning.
I got my spindle,
And my roving.
So far, I'm not doing so bad. I'm not doing wonderfully, but who expected that?
I'm really finding it enjoyable, but a little tiring. The part I'm having the most trouble with is adding more fiber when I need to, it won't join easily. But I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

Photo-week started so well, but I started running out of things to take pictures of, because I'm mostly a homebody (and I forgot my camera the few times I left because I'm scatter-brained.) I gave it a really good try, but it's so exhausting to think "Hey I should take a picture of that for my blog!" every few minutes. Taking pictures seriously cut into my knitting time, badly. I've barely knitted anything all week.

So, I'll only take pictures of WIPs and FOs for now. Maybe someday, I'll try again.

As for the many WIPs and few FOs I currently have, I refuse to start anything new until I finish most of everything that's in my bag right now (four scarfs, a first glove, two pairs of baby mitts, a pair of baby booties, and a shawl). The only thing that I know I won't finish soonish that's in my bag is the shawl. And of course the sweater-dress that I started. Remember, the 244 stitches that I cast on?
Next post, I should have two finished pairs of baby mitts, a second pair of booties, and at least one scarf.

This is going to be another Sakura Scarf, with red and white flowers this time.

This is the inside of my new knitting bag, where I have a convenient GameBoy pocket, complete with 5 games, and spare batteries.

I am quite pleased with it.
Also in the bag is this small little purse-like pouch. It carries my scissors, sewing kit, and all my other spare knitting stuff.
This is what I call the tooth-paste scarf. It has the same texture as a very soft bathrobe.

My wonderful boyfriend, Chris (You all remember him, right?) stayed the night last night. This is him this morning after we got up and dressed etc.
I made us french toast bites for breakfast. Soooo good, and fast to cook. And apparently, quite photogenic.
Then, my dad decided that he didn't want to smile for the camera.
And then Chris stole the camera and started taking pictures of me.
Aren't I adorable?

We then left my house, to go to his house to spend time with his family.
This is Heather, who got me that wonderful knitting bag, and is such a great sport about having her picture taken.
Chris plays guitar, quite beautifully. I love to watch/listen to him play. (That's Jay, Heather's husband, in the background.)
Chris also wrestled with his nephew, Derek. (Heather & Jay's son. He'll be 5 in June.)

Starting tomorrow, I will be taking pictures of my life as I go through my day.
At the end of the day, I will post it all on here.
I will only be doing this until next Saturday, this is only a trial thing.
But you should be excited, because tomorrow you get to see my GIANT new knitting bag.

I have a folder with patterns in it, a pair of gloves, three scarves, a shawl, and a hat. (All WIPs.)

My Boyfriend's older sister, Heather, got it for me for Christmas because she was apparently under the impression that my old bag (just a purse I got from a friend) was too small.

This isn't a very impressive display of what I've finished since I've been without internet, but I also forgot to get pics of all of the Christmas knitting I did for 2010.
For each holiday this year, I will have something "special" to knit, I suppose.
Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's day, (maybe) Independence Day, so on and so forth.

And now, pics!

First, those AWFUL mutated gloves that I made for my friend Bobby AGES ago.
I first spoke of them here, and then I finished the first glove here.

This is the scarf I made for my boyfriend's older sister, Anne, for Xmas. (The only gift I got a picture of.)

I made this for my older sister, Jenn, for her birthday.

This is just a random, garter stitch, scarf. It was made from random yarn that was given to me, and that I had never found a use for until I decided that it needed to be something. This one is for sale, 2 inches wide, and 5 feet long. Very thick and warm, and very pretty.

Next, a baby hat for my best friend, Jasmine, and her very-soon-to-be-born baby girl, Sophyria. (And I mean like three or four days until the baby comes!)

Next, another choker that I made, first you get a detail of the pendant since the stupid uploader loaded my pictures backwards from what I wanted it to.

The choker is for sale, $20, and fits a 12-13 inch neck. I can easily adjust the length, if need be.

And that concludes today's blog post. I will (hopefully) be posting every Thursday from now on.

This isn't going to be a very long blog.
No pictures, or anything.
That will be (hopefully) on the next blog.
This is just an update/apology blog.

The apology is to my followers who have seen no updates from me.
The reason for the lack of updates is a long story.

About a week after I last posted, my mother went psychotic and was going to hit my younger sister. I went to stop her, so she tried to hit me. Being the brilliant person that I am, I called the police, because I was afraid for myself and my sister. (Dad was at work, so he had no idea of any of this.) The cops arrived, and my sister and I left shortly after the cops did.
Later that night, my mother kicked myself, my sister, and my dad out of the house. We were homeless for about two weeks, and then found a place. The past two months have been busy, with moving, and settling in. We still don't have internet at my new house, but as soon as we do, I have a TON of newly knitted items to show off.

I tried to re-block the hat. It is still a fucking blob of stupid nothing.
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.
I have not attempted to re-block the shawl. I doubt I will, until I get a cork-board and more pins.

I finished one of the gloves for my friend.
It was the left one, so it was the easy one.

I used this pattern, (I did slightly adjust it for the left glove), with US size 4 dpns, and I am quite pleased with this. Except for that my cast of of the thumb is very tight, even though I bound off with a size 5.
The Knitting Gods must be angry with me for some reason.

My first attempts at blocking.
The whole soaking dealy, I did that just fine.
The water got squished out, all was well, and then I spent two hours pinning it out.
It refused to stay pinned.

The blocking didn't turn out well. It's longer than it was now, and it opened the lace a little, but not enough, and it's not any wider at all.

I finished the Fern Glade beret, and blocked that as instructed. That also failed.

Right now, it still looks like a blobby, misshapen nothing.

and more rain.
For three days (and nights), it didn't stop for more than 10 minutes.
Today was the first dry day since the rain started, and boy was it wonderful.

Because of all the rain, I have an FO.
It's currently for sale, until someone decides that they want it. $10. It's 5 1/2 feet long, and 3 1/2 inches wide. It took most of a skein of Red Heart in color "Banana & Berries" (I think that's what it was called.), on size US 8 needles.

My Fern Glade from Knitty is coming along nicely. I chose the bigger version (144 stitches vs 120), and it's pretty huge. This picture is only 4 repeats, and I now have 5 done.

Next on my list is a pair of custom gloves that are kind of mutated. The left hand is a normal fingerless glove, with a palm cuff instead of individual fingers. The right hand is a sort of smoking glove. It has full fingers on the pinky, ring finger, and thumb, but the middle and index finger are half-fingers. It's weird, I had to draw a picture and everything. I don't know why this person wants these gloves, all he would say is "They're supposed to be asymmetrical." They are going to have black cuffs and dark gray hands. I'll have pics up soon.

Three finished objects!!

Firstly, Nagano Sakura, from Knitty.

And the finished work. It was fun to knit, and it's really pretty. I didn't do the felting, because I liked it the way it was before felting better.

Second, a Love-bug. The pattern was fun and easy, but there are lots of mistakes in the wing portion of the pattern, so keep that in mind if you plan to knit it.

This is Chris. He really liked the love bug :)

Third, a mistletoe! I know that it's not the season for it, but I couldn't resist, it is just too cute.

I still need advice for blocking my shawl. I've never actually blocked anything before. I guess I never really needed to. I also don't know what to knit next.

The blue shawl is finally finished.
All 19295 stitches are done.

This is where the two halves were joined with Kitchner stitch. (I really hated that by the way.)

Chris's birthday is Friday, July 9th. I'm knitting his mega-man hat (still, because I got lazy and it sat there for a while).
This is one of his gifts, though.

Yeah, I'm cheesy, but it's cute, so it's ok. And Chris will like it.
On to yarn!
This is that lace-weight that I was talking about.

The gauge swatch is about an inch wide, by about an inch and a half long. The top is garter stitch, the middle is stockinette, and the bottom is seed stitch. The swatch was done on size 3 needles.

I'm not sure what to make with that yarn yet, but I still totally need lace-weight yarn in black, and some advice on blocking my blue shawl.

Abandonment.

Monday, June 28th, 2010, my mother lost her job.
Tuesday, June 29th, 2010, my mother packed her stuff (clothes, etc), and left the house.
The last thing she said to me was "I hope you all die."
Now, me and my mother have never gotten along. She is a vicious, cruel, physically, verbally, and emotionally abusive woman, so it's not like I ever actually had much of a mother.
Even so, now I actually don't have a mother at all.
I've been depressed, but not because she actually left. I honestly don't care that she left, my Dad, and my sister will be happier without her, as will I.
It's just that I've got this overwhelming sense of abandonment that I can't shake.

That choker that I made is just a pinch too small, and too wide for my personal taste. I wanted to try again in black. I was playing around with a lace-weight that I've got, and decided I need a black yarn in lace-weight. It'll be softer, stretch better, and I can knit it easily with a small needle. The black yarn I have is too thick to do what I want it to do.
Next time I post, I'll have a picture of a swatch of the lace-weight up, along with my soon-to-be-finished blue shawl. I don't have anything to block it with right now, so it'll be a pre-block picture. I need pins and a something to block things on.

Post-camping Update.

First off, I'm sorry it took so long to get this blog up. We (Me, Chris, Kyle, and John) got back from camping on Sunday morning, and I caught up on sleep (after watching True Blood), and Monday/Tuesday was stressful. My so-called-mother lost her job on Monday, and then on Tuesday, she packed up some clothes, and left. Just drove away, saying she wasn't coming back. Boo drama.

Anyway, the camping was a lot of fun. Well, at first, it kind of wasn't, because it got humid, and I woke up late (stupid alarm didn't go off) so I didn't have time to eat before we left. I got a little dehydrated, so I wasn't feeling so great at first. After a breeze picked up a little bit, though, I was feeling fine. It was too wet outside for us to get a fire going, so we sat around with glow-sticks and candles from a kit my friend John had brought along.
Turns out, bug spray doesn't work on these evil, mutant mosquitoes. My legs (which seems is mostly what they got) are pretty gross looking right now.
All in all, I had a lot of fun.

As for knitting, I didn't take it. I figured I'd be too busy, and I didn't want my yarn near fire. It's a good thing that I didn't take it, too, because it started raining Sunday morning and we had to make a mad dash out of the campsite with all of our stuff in tow.
I still have three repeats to do on the blue shawl, because I just don't want to do this shawl anymore. It feels like it's taking forever.
In the mean time, I have a finished object that took me all of an hour today. It's a collar, with the locket Chris gave me attached. I still haven't put a picture in it.
The locket was on a chain, but the chain broke, so I decided to knit a collar, since I prefer the "choker" style necklaces, and a knit choker won't cause any irritation on my neck like a chain sometimes does. Plus, it's fantastic for anyone who knits and/or wants something more significant for a collaring ceremony. (Kudos if you know what a collaring ceremony is.)

The knitted part is 7 stitches on size 3 needles, knit in seed stitch. The clips on the back are hook-and-eyes. The locket is attached by a simple "o" ring, or jumper ring as they are sometimes called. Yay needle nose pliers!

I'm so pleased with how this came out.

Camping!!

Event update: tomorrow, (Friday), I leave town to go camping.
I'm too excited to sleep.

Health update:
I have a sprained ankle right now due to hiking through a forest, and falling through a beaver dam.
My legs are also a little cut up, but it's ok.
I'm also completely over the cold! Yay!

Knitting update:
I have 3 repeats left to do on the blue shawl. It'll be done by the time I get back from camping.
I took random parts from several different patterns to make a giraffe. Pics soon.
I got new knitting needles, courtesy of my amazing boyfriend, Chris. Size 6 16 inch circulars to replace the pair that broke.
His hat is around the half-way point.
Before I start anything else new, at all, I really need to finish what I've got started. I've got 6 things to catch up on.

Over-all summary:
I may be slightly battered, but that's ok.
I'm still alive, still knitting, and I'm happy.

Summer Cold of Doooooooom!

I have a cold.
It's really bad.
I'm all congested, my throat hurts, I can't taste anything, and in the past two days, I've gone through four rolls of toilet paper. My Dad won't buy me Kleenex, so my nose hurts now too.
This damn cold is kicking my ass, hard.
My amazing, fantastic boyfriend, Chris, is bringing me chicken noodle soup right now, though, which is awesome, because I'm hungry.

On the plus side, I've been knitting more since I can hardly leave bed.
The blue shawl is almost done. I will most likely finish it before the weekend, and have pictures up by then.
The next WIP I'm going to focus on after that is the Spider-man dice bag.
But first, a surprise for Chris!

Firsly, I've deleted the blog on Live-Journal.
No one was reading it.
Oh well.

As far as knitting goes, I've gotten a little more progress on the blue shawl.
I've also knitted myself a temporary dice bag. It looks the same as the green one, but black and dark red instead of green.

As for the photo-shoot, I'm being asked my by boyfriend's band to take new pictures of them since they got two new members.
I also have a modeling gig on Thursday.
I've still got my other modeling shoot to do, the one that I was going to knit for.
I'm excited.
I'm happy.
Life is good.

I got home on Monday night.
I couldn't fall asleep, because my bed felt really weird. It felt huge, and empty.
As it turns out, sleeping in the same bed as Chris for 4 nights is something I got used to pretty quickly.
Anyway, my week has been a busy-ish one.
Tuesday, I was trying to get registered for school, but couldn't get a hold of the people at the registering center.
Wednesday, I played D&D with some friends and Chris.
Thursday (last night), Chris and I watched The Stepfather, and The Last House on the Left (newer version). The Stepfather was kind of terrible. The Last House on the Left was good, but I probably won't watch it again.
Today is Friday. I promised at least two Fo's last Wednesday, but unfortunately, while I was house-sitting, I didn't get much knitting done. I did, however, spend a lot of time cleaning, and playing D&D with friends and Chris. It was a great deal of fun.

The only FO I have is the dice bag.

Those are my dice in the second picture. They're pretty, and I always roll well with them. Yay lucky dice!

As for the blue shawl, I haven't really worked on it. I just haven't felt like it.
I want to finish my Spider-Man dice-bag, so that my dice have their own place to be safe and warm, but right now, they're just sitting on my table.
Poor, homeless dice.
